BJP's IT cell secy arrested for posting fake video

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a BJP leader from Hirapur in West Burdwan on Wednesday on charges of spreading rumours with an intention of "creating communal disharmony".
Police said the accused, Tarun Sengupta, was the secretary of the party's IT Cell in Asansol. He was arrested for spreading fake news and creating communal disharmony, as stated in a tweet by CID on Wednesday morning.
A few days ago, Tarun had uploaded a video on Facebook followed by a post. Investigation had revealed that the video was a fake one and it has no relevance with that of the state. Subsequently, the CID officers arrested Tarun.
It may be mentioned that an objectionable post by a youth on the social networking site had led to deterioration of the law and order situation in Basirhat sub-division and its adjoining areas a few days ago.
"Though it is quite clear that it was posted on purpose to create communal disharmony, we would further question him to know whether he had done it after being asked by someone or if it was his own decision. Basically we want to know what the exact reason was behind such post," said a police officer.
A police officer said that his statement in the Facebook post can incite communal tension and one has to be very cautious while writing something about two senior police officers.
In the last week, there was an attempt to spread rumours by posting still photographs of a video footage of a Bhojpuri movie on social networking site by claiming as if it was an incident of Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had strongly reacted to it and stated that all these were attempts to disturb the peace and harmony in the state. She had also urged people not to fall prey to such rumours.
