CBI arrests six including I-T Commissioner for receiving kickbacks

The CBI on May 2 arrested six persons including the Income Tax Commisioner (Appeals) in Mumbai, BB Rajendra Prasad for alleged graft charges.

According to CBI sources, the alleged accused were arrested for taking bribe to give a favourable order in a case pertaining to Balaji Trust in Mumbai where Essar Investments Ltd is a trustee.

The CBI has also conducted searches on the Mumbai office of Essar on May 2 in connection with the graft case. The CBI is also probing a chartered accountant for his alleged involvement in the case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation team recovered large amounts of cash, investment details and other incriminating documents from their homes in south Mumbai and other places, the sources added.

The accused shall be placed under arrest for corruption and related charges even as further investigations were underway.

However, top IT officials in the city remained incommunicado about the details of the CBI action which commenced early on Wednesday.
