Apollo official who asked for FD certificate as security deposit to be quizzed

Police will interrogate a senior official of the billing department of the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in connection with the probe into the Sanjay Roy incident. In course of the investigation police came to know that the Apollo official had forced the family members to deposit the fixed certificate to the hospital as a security for treating the patient.

Police on Sunday interrogated 5 officials from the hospital including two doctors who had treated the patient after he was admitted to the hospital with critical injuries. They were quizzed by senior police officers at the Phoolbagan police station for nearly two hours. The investigating officers on Sunday recorded statements of the doctors and other staff members of the hospital. Police have examined CCTV footage of the hospital which has established that a heated altercation broke out between the hospital staff members and patient's relatives. It has already been established that the hospital had forced the relatives of the victim to deposit a fixed deposit certifcate which the family members later got back by paying the dues.

It was learnt that police may interrogate some top officials of the hospital in the city in this connection. It may be mentioned here that the inquiry team of the state health department has already submitted a preliminary report to the health department in this connection. The team has already found a clear case of medical negligence.

It may be mentioned that Sanjay Roy who was admitted to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital with critical injuries following a road accident died after being shifted to the SSKM Hospital. It was alleged that the hospital authorities did not allow the patient to be transferred to the SSKM Hospital over non-payment of bills which eventually led to his death. Post- mortem report also confirmed that the patient died due to excessive bleeding.
