3rd biker in 24 hours dies on Signature Bridge

New Delhi: A day after two medical students were killed in a tragic accident at the Signature Bridge, a 24-year-old died and another was injured early on Saturday. The incident occurred while they were riding from Nangloi towards Northeast district at 8.20 am on the bridge when their bike skid.

Shankar, 24 was driving the bike along with his cousin Deepak, 17, who was riding pillion. While Shankar succumbed to his injuries, Deepak was injured. The Timarpur Police Station was informed of the incident, following which the duo was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Shankar was declared "brought dead" by doctors and his cousin just escaped with knee injuries. Both were wearing helmets. Shankar was a resident of Ghaziabad and worked as a salesman. He was unmarried.

"The injured man Deepak told us that the motorcycle had skid. He says that they were wearing helmets but Shankar's helmet fell away after skidding and his head hit the divider," said a senior police officer.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has asked youngsters in the city to be "careful while clicking selfies and not drive at a high speed" after three people died on the newly opened Signature Bridge in the past two days.

On Friday morning two medical students Chandra Shekhar (20) and Satya Vijay Shankaran (23) were on a KTM bike when it skidded into a divider, hurtling them down the bridge. Both died after falling off the bridge.
