Big day fiasco: Flipkart apologises to customers via personal email

In a ‘personal’ e-mail to customers by Sachin and Binny Bansal, its founders, it said it was sorry for all the problems that were faced by customers, which ranged from price changes to website issues and cancellations. The email  said, ‘Yesterday was a big day for us. And we really wanted it to be a great day for you. But at the end of the day, we know that your experience was less than pleasant. We did not live up to the promises we made and for that we are really and truly sorry.’

Under the cut-throat competition scenario at e-commerce platform, Flipkart had launched a mega sale on Monday, where they put a number of products on sale. Due to the much  created hype about the sale, millions of users logged into its website which eventually could not deal with the huge traffic and resulted in unpleasant experience for the customers. A number of customers were left disappointed with the website as their orders were cancelled and almost all products went out of stock the moment they started, pointing to the lack of stocks.

In the mail, founders addressed many issues which discomforted customers like  out-of-stock issues, price changes and cancellations.

The website’s mail said, ‘We had ensured availability, anywhere from hundreds to a few lakh units for various products, but it was nowhere near the actual demand. We promise to plan much better for future promotions and ensure that we minimise the out-of-stock issues.’

‘As we were preparing various deals and promotional pricing in the lead up to the sale, the pricing of several products got ?changed to their non-discounted rates for a few hours?.’ Social media sites were flooded by trolls and fun making posts against Flipkart fiasco.

‘We failed to live up to this promise yesterday and would like to apologise once again to every single customer for our failure,’ signed off Sachin and Binny Bansal.  Arch rivals Snapdeal and Amazon would be making merry over this.
