Bidhannagar police arrest two on extortion charges

Bidhannagar police on Thursday conducted raids in two separate places and arrested two persons on the charges of extorting money, while three others were arrested with fire arms. Police found that the three of the arrested had an intention to commit various crimes in the nearby areas.

Police are investigating where the accused had got the arms from. On the basis of some complaints, the police raided two places after they came to know that the accused were residing in the areas. Police will also conduct raids in some other places to nab some other accused who used to extort money from people from the areas.

It may be mentioned that the Chief Minister had instructed the senior police officers to take stern action against people who were involved in extortion. She also instructed the police to not see which party the accused belongs to. Following this order from the Chief Minister, the Bidhannagar and the city police have intensified raids and cracked down on illegal dens.

Police have arrested Biswajit Naskar, Robin Neoa and Sukumar Neoa from New Town from who they have seized 10 fire arms and 19 rounds of cartridges. According to the preliminary reports, police suspect that the accused assembled in that area to commit dacoity and other crimes in various areas. 

Police have also arrested Suvojit Ghosh of Narayanpur areas and another accused, Satyajit Majhi of Dashodron area from Airport police station area. Police had received several complaints against the two who were extorting money from the local residents on various pretexts. They were taken to police custody. The police are interrogating the accused to know the names of other members of the racket.
