Bhunia gives letter to Speaker seeking security

Apprehending physical assault on him, the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Manas Bhunia on Tuesday gave a letter to the Speaker of West Bengal Legislative Assembly Biman Banerjee seeking security.

“I am mentally shattered because of the way some of my party colleagues are behaving with me. Now I apprehend physical attack on me and so I have informed the Speaker about this. I have also asked him to change my seat on the floor of the House,” Bhunia said. He said he had already informed the party’s chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and CP Joshi, AICC secretary in charge of West Bengal.

Bhunia said such personal attack on any MLA by his party colleague had never been seen in the Assembly before. From July 4 when Bhuniya was appointed as the chairman of PAC, Abdul Mannan, leader of Opposition had staged a walk out in the Assembly and began criticising Bhuniya of PAC. The tenure of the chairman is for one year.

Bhuniya said he had convened the 8th meeting of PAC on Friday and expected the members to be present. “PAC is an important body and the members should be serious in guiding the state government,” he said. Now it is to be seen whether AICC suspends Bhunia for flouting party discipline or expels him as demanded by the members of Congress Legislative Party (CLP).
