B’desh national suspected to have links with Khagragarh blast arrested in Burdwan

Police said that Rahul Mirbar, the accused who has been arrested is a resident of Ferozpur in Bangladesh. He was arrested from Burdwan’s Sarbamangala para area on late Tuesday night. He was remanded in police custody after being produced before Burdwan district court on Wednesday.

Police said that Rahul had intruded into Burdwan few days ago and he failed to provide valid documents to the police. He also failed to inform police who had assisted him to enter India. In the interrogation, the accused failed to answer the police about the purpose of his visit to the country.

Police are, however, trying to find out the purpose of his visit. Police are also investigating whether the accused had any links with the other accused who had already been arrested by the police for their alleged involvement in Khagragarh blast incident.

The accused responding to a question thrown at him by the media said that he illegally intruded into India around five days with a tout, who helps people cross borders. He got work in a shop in Burdwan. He claimed that he had lost the contact numbers of his relatives living in Burdwan district. He had no option other than getting a job in a nearby shop after losing the contact number of his relatives.

Burdwan district police, however, find his statements highly suspicious and hence interrogating the accused to know his whereabouts. Police are suspecting that he might have been involved in the Khagragarh blast which had claimed the lives of four persons. Police are investigating if he had any links with the other accused involved in the incident.

A senior police officer in the district said that the accused has been arrested for failing to provide valid documents. Police have started a probe to ascertain the identity of the accused.

“We are investigating the purpose of the accused behind visiting our country. We are also trying to know whether he was involved in any anti-national activities. A detailed probe is on,” a senior police officer in the district said.
