Battered teen maid rescued

A teenage maid servant was rescued from Moti Nagar area of west Delhi. The girl was allegedly beaten up by a woman, owner of the house, where she was employed for two months.

'The girl hails from Assam and had come to Delhi three months ago to work in a house located at Bali Nagar. The owner of the house, identified as Rupa, has been arrested after a raid, based on a complaint given by the neighbours of the house,' said a police officer.

After medical examination, the girl has been sent to the Nirmal Chaya Home, added the official.

The police received the complaint through a child helpline, on 11 May. Based on that, they had set up a trap and nabbed Rupa and rescued the girl. The victim issued a statement to the police saying that she had not been paid a single penny since she was employed in the house. She also alleged that Rupa beats her up as well.

The girl had come to Delhi along with Harish Kumar, a relative of the girl. The girl was living in Assam with her mother, sister and a younger brother. Kumar had allegedly promised her mother to get her daughter employed in Delhi for Rs 2,000 per month.

Rupa knew Kumar through a friend, a university professor in Assam. The police is also trying to get hold of Kumar and the professor, police official said.

Last month, a 13-year-old maid servant was rescued from a house in Dwarka. The doctor couple, owner of the house, were arrested by the police later. They had allegedly locked the girl in their house and had gone on a holiday to Thailand.
