Barricades in place, but cops?

On one hand, Delhi police claims that they have increased the patrolling and checking on the roads, but on Thursday, when this correspondent surveyed a few check posts in the city, it was found that the cops are still lackadaisical.

In the evening, when the correspondent travelled in east Delhi roads, she found barricadings of the Delhi police, but no cops were to be found. The stretch is about 20 kilometres and absence of the cops so soon after the heinous crime does not abode well.

When the senior officials of the respective police stations were contacted, few of them refused to comment. However, a few of them took the complaint of this correspondent seriously and acted immediately.

At the border of Delhi-Ghaziabad, that falls under Seemapuri police station, the barricadings were available but it was of no use as there was not even a single cop present to check the vehicles. When one of the officials of Seema Puri police station was contacted he said, ‘We have posted two constables at the barricadings, but I really don’t know why they were not there. I will take serious action of their reckless behaviour.’

Although, when the station head officer (SHO) of Vivek Vihar police station was called, he said, ‘We do the patrolling and checking late in the evening.’ To make matters worse, the street lights in the Ghazipur flyover do not function. It is quite risky for the commuters to travel on those roads once dusk falls. Also, the owners of the whiteline buses have still not removed the sun films or the curtains from the windows of the buses.
