Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque Maulana Syed Noor Ur Rehman Barkati on Monday urged people to cast their votes in favour of Mamata Banerjee and her party.

He said all the political parties including BJP, Congress and CPI(M) are claiming that they will be forming the government this time. But people are not fools. People have witnessed what Mamata Banerjee did in the past four and a half years for people of all cast and creed.

“Now they are going for the alliance just to defeat Mamata Banerjee. We all have witnessed the 34 years of Left Front rule. They did nothing for the state during their tenure. Vote in West Bengal are not held on the basis of cast and creed. People here cast their votes only after assessing the work that took place in the past four and a half years.

“We all have witnessed what had taken place in Aligarh University.

“Thus we want a secular state and country,” he said adding that communal harmony in West Bengal is strong.

“RSS didn’t follow ant law. I had received a letter threatening me to send to Pakistan around one and a half month ago. I had informed the police,” he added.
