Bangladeshi smuggler remanded in police custody

A smuggler was arrested by the Border security Force (BSF) on Thursday night. Police said arrested Shekh Jamal was a Bangladeshi national.

He was the resident of Barishal. He had liked with city based smuggling racket. Jamal was taken to court on Friday morning and he was remanded to police custody.

The police source confirmed that the relatives of Jamal were caught red handed by the air intelligence wing of custom at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata.

Those relatives were arrested with gold ornaments worth Rs 30 lakh 86 thousand. The airport source confirmed that 995 grams of gold ornaments were recovered from the person on Sunday night. 

The police also recovered 955 grams of gold bars from Jamal.

It may be recollected, the seizure of gold worth Rs 22 lakh a few weeks ago was followed by the arrest of two smugglers at the airport. Police is sure that Jamal had links with those smugglers. 

In another incident, the security personnel detained a person on the charges of illegally bringing gold jewelleries in the airport. Police said the person was smuggling gold jewelleries keeping it in marker pen. He had also taken Shekh Jamal’s name.
