Baichung Bhutia kicks off official poll campaign

In a bid to know problems of common people, Baichung Bhutia, the Trinamool Congress

candidate from Siliguri Assembly constituency, has assured the people that he will be creating e-mail accounts in which they can post stating their problems if he is voted to power.

A day after the party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s visit to North Bengal, Baichung on Tuesday officially started campaigning.

He first went to Anandamoyi Kali Temple and offered puja.

Then he held a meeting with the party leaders and workers before starting door-to-door campaign.

He walked into the playground of Siliguri Dada Bhai Sporting Club and played football with some youth for a few minutes. Later he again continued with his campaign.

He assured the people that he was inspired by Banerjee and he wanted to work for the development of Siliguri. He said: “I would be creating some e-mail accounts in which people can easily post their problems.”

There will be some youth, who will be monitoring the e-mails and prompt steps will be taken soon after receiving the e-mails.

He said the problems first came to the notice of the residents of the respective area. They need to visit different offices to pass the information or to get the work done.

“It is time taking. But with e-mails account in place, they can directly pass the information to me. Thus for an overall development of Siliguri he urged the people to cast votes in his favour,” he said.

Hundreds of party supporters joined Bhutia when he was busy in door-to-door campaign.

The common people in the area were overwhelmed seeing the star footballer in front of them.

Many common people were also found joining the party workers during the campaign. At many places people were found throwing flowers at Bhutia and congratulating him.

Bhutia later said that he will give more stress on visiting each and every area under the constituency to build contacts with the people.
