Baby’s corpse missing from grave, cops blame dogs

When Habeeb Khan reached the IP estate graveyard early morning at around 8 am on Wednesday, he was already in tears mourning his child’s death. However, a bigger horror was waiting for him. The slab of the small grave was moved and the corpse of the child was missing.

Habeeb Khan’s youngest son Dawood died on January 3. The 2-month-old child was rushed to the Kasturba Gandhi hospital on Tuesday but could not be saved. Then, the last rites of the child was performed after the afternoon prayers on the same day. The child was ceremoniously buried at IP estate graveyard. However, the next morning when the family came to offer prayers at the grave they found that the corpse of the child missing.

“The heavy slab has been removed. I want thorough investigation into it as I suspect foulplay though the police want to blame dogs for it. What has happened with my son’s corpse should not happen with anyone else,” says Habib Khan.

When Millennium Post visited the graveyard, the slab over the grave was found removed from it place. A watchman Dhanbahadur who guards the graveyard in the day says: “We don’t have a watchman at night. No one stays here at night. We do not know how it happened.”

What has bothered the family is the pathetic attitude of the cops who they say want to brush aside the case saying it is the work of dogs.

“The SHO says it is the work of dogs. How can they reach to a conclusion without investigation? How can a dog remove a heavy slab weighing several kilos? This is insensitivity of the police,” alleged Khan.
