Babul Supriyo was gheraoed by the local people of a village in Asansol from where he was elected as an MP.
Local people including women and school goers gheraoed him and sought explanation for the delay in the progress of certain projects that he had assured.
It is learnt that Supriyo had assured help to construct a school building and a road. He had even sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for the projects. But for certain reasons the work didn’t start.
Supriyo was accompanying the BDO. He asked the people to enquire from the BDO that why the work had not started despite the money was sanctioned.
The BDO told the villagers that the tender has been floated in this connection and the work will begin as early as possible.
He himself had also asked the BDO that when the work will start and why it is getting g delayed. He later told the villagers: “I am the boss of the BDO and since I have released the money, now it is the duty of the BDO to complete the work as early as possible.” The MP had also shown some papers to make people believe that the Rs 20,000 lakh has already been sanctioned.
It is learnt that the MP went to village to take a stock of the progress of work for which he had sanctioned the money. There were policemen all around him when he was being gheraoed by the local people.
Though the police had tried to push back the local people, Supriyo had shown interest to speak to the villagers to know their grievances.
