Baba, Cong MP join Modi fan club

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Sunday got a clean chit from Baba Ramdev, who is all set to launch an anti-corruption campaign against the centre at Ramlila grounds in New Delhi from 9 August, to coincide with the upcoming monsoon session of the parliament.

'Everybody is asking me about corruption in Gujarat, but I couldn't find anything of this sort. Modi is not doing anything wrong,' Ramdev said at an award function in Ahmedabad, where he shared the dais with Modi along with Congress MP Vijay Darda.

'Ministers of Congress-led UPA government have been in jail. Had the Gujarat chief minister also done anything wrong, he would have been put behind bars,' Ramdev said.

This statement was enough to cause consternation at Jantar Mantar, where Anna and his supporters are fasting. While Anna skirted the issue saying this was an attempt to divide the movement against corruption, some of his team members were more forthcoming in their criticism of Modi and Ramdev. Prominent Team Anna members Sanjay Singh and Kumar Vishwas said, 'Narendra Modi is a murderer of humanity. Ramdev will have to clarify on this issue.'

That Darda also chose to applaud Gujarat chief minister on the same occasion, comparing Modi to a tiger, might have amused Modi, but left Congress red-faced. Congress general secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said, 'Let us ascertain the facts from the in-charge of party affairs in the state. Only then it could be seen what could be done.'

Darda later said that it was 'not a political observation, but a social comment.' 'In our culture, we always speak good about the host and this is a religious function, so none of my comments should be misconstrued as political remarks,' Darda said.
