B-town mourns ‘King of Romance’

Yash Chopra lived up to the title of what will now really be his last movie Jab Taak Hai Jaan. He breathed romance till he lived. Like someone wrote on Twitter: ‘Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna and now Yash Chopra. Romance is now officially dead.’

Sanjay Gupta said: ‘Yashraj was so named because it was launched by Yash Chopra and Rajesh Khanna. Now they’re both gone..’

Amitabh Bachchan, many of whose iconic movies are directed by Yash Chopra, announced it with a simple tweet: ‘Yash Chopra passes away .. Just now a hour ago ..’.

Bollywood mourned on Twitter. Anurag Kashyap wrote: ‘Yash Ji passed away before his last film came to the theatres.. Not done...’

Others, like Madhuri Dixit-Nene posted: ‘Just got the news that Yashji passed on. He was one of the giants of cinema. My deepest condolences to his family. We will all miss him.’  The man, whose movies are know as much for the romance as for the music, had music directors mourn the loss too. Neil Nitin Mukesh wrote: 'Three generations of MUKESH’S, my grandfather [Kabhie Kabhie], my father [Noorie] and me ..Indian cinema will now always be incomplete!'  Chopra passed away at the age of 80 at Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital where he was being treated.
