Azam Khan quits Kumbh mela post

Uttar Pradesh Urban development minister Mohmmad Azam Khan resigned from the post of chairman, Kumbh Mela Committee, with immediate effect on Monday taking moral responsibility for the incident of stampede at Allahabad Railway station in which more than 36 people died.

‘I have resigned from the post of chairman of the committee taking moral responsibility of the stampede at Allahabad Railway junction on Sunday night in which 36 Kumbh mela devotees died,’ Khan announced in Rampur.

He said though the railways is responsible for the incident but as a chairman of the Kumbh Mela committee it was his duty to prevent any such incident.

The UP minister had on Sunday night condoled the death of the devotees and had demanded a thorough probe into the stampede.
