Awarding the best in literature

The Kusumanjali Foundation has felicitated the literary contributions of two writers, one each in Hindi and Tamil at the Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman 2012. The award went to Usha Kiran Khan in Hindi and K Vittal Rao in Tamil in recognition of their outstanding contribution in the field of literature. The function was graced by Dr Karan Singh, President ICCR, who gave away the literary awards to the winners.

The Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman is instituted by Ansal Properties & Infrastructure Ltd [Ansal API]. The company supports many such charitable bodies/trusts and is dedicately engaged in the pursuit of upliftment of the under-privileged section of society. ‘The Kusumanjali Foundation’ is one such body which is supported by the company and has been established by well-known writer Kusum Ansal. The Kusumanjali Foundation runs with an objective of promoting literary works of budding writers in Hindi and other regional languages. The trust has recently instituted the annual award, Kusumanjali Sahitya Samman, to honor and encourage literary works of Hindi and other Indian languages. The criteria for these awards comprises of all genres including biography, drama, fiction and poetry.

Every year, the trust honors the literary works in Hindi and the second award goes to a literary work published in one of the remaining recognised Indian languages mentioned in the Schedule VIII of the Indian Constitution. Both the awards are given to the works published during the last five years preceding the current year of the award i.e. 2007-2011. The award winners will receive a cheque for Rs. 2,50,000 along with a citation and the award statuette.

The Selection Board and the Advisory Committee of the Kusumanjali Foundation comprises of eminent authors and scholars. The literary contributions by writers are adjudged by a jury panel selected by the foundation. This is the first edition.

This year the Kusumanjali Foundation had invited nominations to felicitate the literary works in Hindi and Tamil. The Selection Board for Hindi is headed by Alok Mehta [a renowned author and media personality] selected Sirjanhaar by Usha Kiran Khan [Novel, 2010]. The Selection Board for Tamil is headed by SA Kandsamy [a renowned Tamil author].
