Auto drivers’ strike chokes Millennium City

A strike by auto drivers led to a massive traffic jam in the Millennium City on Monday morning. The strike took place in retaliation to a case registered against a traffic cop for allegedly assaulting an auto rickshaw driver at the Huda City Centre Metro station last week.

The strike started in the morning and by 9 am all roads leading to HUDA City Centre and Expressway were jammed till after 12 pm. The Expressway was choked on both sides leading to Signature Tower.

The auto union members even checked autorickshaws on roads to check if the autos were carrying any passengers, leading to a traffic jam from Rajiv Chowk to Huda City Centre.

As a result, commuters in cars were stuck on roads while those who wanted to ply by public transport faced problems in availing an auto.

The assault took place on November 24 which was even captured in a mobile video. The police, however, registered a case against the driver for allegedly assaulting a traffic cop. The police stated that the driver initiated the assault by abusing and hitting the on-duty policeman.

The autorickshaw drivers have demanded a probe into the matter to put a full stop to all cases of harassment and assault against fellow auto drivers.
