Auto driver held for thrashing civic volunteer

A civic volunteer of Joynagar Majilpur municipality was badly beaten up by an auto rickshaw driver. The incident took place near station more area under Joynagar police station. After starting an investigation, the district police arrested the accused auto-rickshaw driver and seized the vehicle. The incident triggered tension in the locality.

The victim, Subhasis Bose had his limbs broken following the incident. He was taken to Nimpith-Baruipur sub-divisional hospital but he was later shifted to MR Bangur Hospital as his condition deteriorated. He was again shifted to NRS Medical College and Hospital where he has been undergoing treatment currently. The doctors in the hospital said that his injuries are serious in nature.

It was learnt that the victim who was on-duty at the area had urged the accused not to park the vehicle on the road flouting traffic norms. When the victim had asked the accused to move his vehicle from the spot, the latter became agitated and started hurling abusive language at him. This led to a hot altercation between the two. The accused soon started punching the civic volunteer and also attacked him with a wooden stick. 

As a result of this incident, the victim received injuries on his leg. The local people after hearing about the incident rushed to his rescue. The local residents freed the victim from the clutches of the accused. Following the incident, the local residents staged protests alleging that auto-drivers often flout traffic norms. They often misbehave with the passengers. They also alleged that police do not take any steps against the auto-rickshaw drivers park their vehicles on the road to pick up extra passengers.
