Aus thrash India eves

Australia breezed home by eight wickets against India to open its campaign in style at the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in Galle on Thursday. Batting first, India could muster a paltry total of 104/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Opener Poonam Raut top scored with 21 while Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet made 18 apiece. Erin Osborne was the pick of the Australian bowlers, returning with figures of 3/13.

In reply, Australia raced past the target with 14 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.Meg Lanning hit a brisk 39 while Jess Cameron remained unbeaten on 36. Jhulan Goswami and Shubhalakshmi Sharma scalped one wicket each.

In the second match played on Thursday, England beat Pakistan by 43 runs. Pakistan were shot out for just 90 in the 19th over while chasing a challenging target of 134 set by England.
