At 89, ND Tiwari marries his son’s mother
In a surprise move, former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand chief minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari,89, married Ujjawala Sharma, 67, the mother of his biological son Rohit Shekhar at his official residence in Lucknow on Wednesday night. Close friends and relatives were present in the wedding. ‘It was a simple wedding. There was no band music or lavish spread.
There was just ‘dulha-dulhan’ (bride and groom) and a few close friends from both sides,’ Harish Joshi, an official at Tiwari’s residence said.
Congress leaders were caught unawares. Many of them went to his house to congratulate him and Tiwari responded by saying: ‘Ujjwala wanted that we should officially live like husband and wife. So I decided to get married on the auspicious day of Budh Purnima.’
Insiders say that Ujjawala was putting pressure on ND Tiwari to acknowledge her as his wife. Few days back, she had to enter Tiwary’s house by force which led to the dismissal of Tiwari’s personal aide. Last month, Ujjwala Sharma had filed a police complaint that Tiwari’s OSD Bhawani Bhatt and security personnel were not allowing her into the Congress leader’s house.
Ujjwala’s son Rohit Shekar had taken Tiwari to court after the senior Congress leader had refused to acknowledge him as his son. The Delhi High Court on 24 April, 2013 had declared Rohit Shekhar as Tiwari’s biological son and in March this year Tiwari finally accepted Rohit as his son. It is Tiwari’s second marriage. His first wife, Sushila Tiwari, died in 1993. The couple had no issue. This was also the second marriage of Ujjawala Sharma.
