Assistant sub-inspector beaten up in Burdwan


Police said that the ASI Jayanta Mukhopadhyay was in his duty at Niyamatpur crossing and he had been checking almost all the vehicles passing through the area. 

He had also stopped the car that was heading towards Gaya from Asansol. Two youth Santosh Kumar Nirala and Sailesh Kumar had protested as their car was stopped. 

Finding it suspicious, the ASI asked the duo to come out of the car and he searched the vehicle. While searching the vehicle, Mukhopadhyay had recovered ganza which was kept under the rear seat. 

The duo attacked the police officer as soon as they found him bringing the packet out from their car. The officer was surprised when both of them started beating him. In order to protest himself the officer ran away from the spot. The duo also chased his and beat him up once again.
 
Local people, who were surprised to see a police officer being beaten up in broad daylight, came forward to catch the youth. By that time the policemen in the outpost got the information and they reached the spot. 

The duo was arrested and the police officer was taken to hospital where he was provided with necessary treatment. 

The car was seized and police have initiated a probe to find out from where they had procured ganja. The police were also trying to ascertain their exact motive behind visiting the state. A police officer said they have started an investigation to know that to whom the car actually belongs as it bears sticker of Bihar Assembly.
