Army jawan arrested for molesting neighbour’s girl

Delhi Police arrested an Army Hawaldar for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl in South-west Delhi’s Delhi Cantonment  area on Friday. According to the police, the accused identified as Vijender Kumar has been arrested. Police said that Vijender Kumar, the accused, is a neighbour of the minor girl. He was also a friend of the girl’s father, who is also an Army Hawaldar.

The incident took place on August 25 in the Delhi Cantonment area when Kumar was returning home.
Sources said that while returning home, Kumar saw the victim roaming around her house. On seeing Kumar, the girl greeted him. It was then that he allegedly tried to take advantage of her.

A senior police official said that Kumar first touched her head and then his hand went on to her shoulders and then slowly he started touching her private parts of the girl before the girl could even protest. The girl screamed and ran to her house.

Sources said that it was only days later that the minor girl mustered up courage to inform her family. She informed her father on Friday.

Sources, meanwhile, said that on Friday, the 16-year-old girl along with her father approached the Delhi Cantt Police station and registered a case against Kumar. After which, the minor girl was taken for medical examination.

On Saturday morning, a team of police reached Kumar’s house and took him to the police station for questioning. He was subsequently arrested. Surender Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (South-west district), said: “We have registered a case under Section IPC 354A (sexual harassment) and Section 8, POCSO Act against the accused and arrested him.” He was produced before a court on Saturday and sent to judicial custody thereafter.
