Apex Court to hear Somnath Bharti’s bail plea on Monday

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear on Monday the bail plea of AAP MLA Somnath Bharti seeking protection from arrest in a domestic violence and attempt to murder case in which the Delhi high court has rejected his petition for anticipatory bail.

A bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy fixed the matter for hearing on September 28 after senior advocate Pramod Swaroop, appearing for Bharti, mentioned the petition before it. The High Court had dismissed his anticipatory bail plea, saying the allegations against him were backed by “documentary proof”.

Meanwhile, a national executive meeting of AAP was held at Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence on Thursday to discuss the internal matters of the party. The national executive is the second highest <g data-gr-id="18">decision making</g> <g data-gr-id="17">body</g> of AAP.

Aam Aadmi Party is out of money and will be starting an extensive fund collection drive in the coming days. The decision was taken at the national executive meeting. “The funding has come down significantly after the Delhi elections. The drive, ‘I Fuel Swaraj’ will be spearheaded by Kumar Vishwas who will now plan on how to raise money. Our funds can run dry any moment now,” said a party official.
