Anwar Khan granted bail

Trinamool Congress leader Anwar Khan was given bail from Cossipore police station on Friday.

He was arrested on Thursday on charges of passing derogatory comments on the Election Commission (EC).

It may be mentioned that the police had kept a close watch on him as per the direction of the EC and two policemen were constantly accompanying him. The situation had turned worse for Khan when allegation of passing derogatory comment against EC was raised against him.

The EC had directed the city police to arrest him. Khan, who was ill, went to the residence of a relative at Pikepara. Police search Khan as he was not in his home.

Later in evening he was arrested from the relative’s house at Pikepara.

He was booked under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code on charges of “disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant”.

On Friday, the police was supposed to produce him before the Sealdah Court. But to avoid any trouble as many people gathered outside the court, he was given bail from the police station itself.
