Ansari gets 10 day’ parole for poll campaign

Uttar Pradesh legislator and alleged gangster Mukhtar Ansari has been granted parole by a Delhi court for 10 days for campaigning. Ansari is named in several cases including the killing of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai.

He is also facing a case under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act along with Munna Bajrangi for being a member of an organised crime syndicate.

Additional sessions judge Savita Rao granted custody parole to Ansari, who is contesting Lok Sabha elections from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghoshi constituency on Quami Ekta Dal ticket. Ansari had filed his nomination last week from Agra jail. He will, however, have to campaign in police custody. After campaigning, he will have to spend the night in the area police station.

His parole which began on Thursday will end on 10 May. Ghoshi is scheduled to go to polls on 12 May.
