Another lot of 63 child labourers freed in Rajasthan

A day after rescuing 168 child labourers, Rajasthan Police rescued 63 others aged between 7 and 13 years from on board a train here while they were being taken to West Bengal to work in factories there, officials said.

Police also arrested 10 men on charges of human trafficking, they added.

It is the second major bust of human trafficking gangs in Rajasthan within 24 hours as police had rescued 168 children from a train in Bharatpur on Saturday.

A senior government railway police (GRP) officer said: ‘We got a tip-off from some social activists that 63 children were being taken to West Bengal in the Jodhpur-Howrah Express for working in factories there.’

When the train reached Jaipur railway station, these children were made to get on the train by some people.

‘Several of the children were made to stand in the train’s toilets. However, a GRP (Government Railway Police) team raided the train and rescued the children. Most of the children are from Bihar and were working at some bangle factories in Jaipur,’ said the officer.

The officer added that 10 men were arrested from the train. ‘These people are also from Bihar and work as labour contractors, he said.
