Another case of dowry death in state

A 25-year-old housewife was allegedly killed by her husband and in-laws at Bholeseikh area of Canning in South 24-Parganas. The victim’s family members lodged a complaint with the police against her in-laws alleging that she was murdered, but are yet to get the post mortem report.

Police said that Fatema Seikh was married to Ali Hossain Seikh few years ago. Despite knowing that the girl was not from an affluent family, the accused had taken dowry from the victim’s family and had demanded various other items which the father of the victim failed to give.

Even after few years of marriage, the victim’s husband and her in-laws started forcing her to bring more money from her parents. The situation turned worse for her when she refused to approach her parents for any more money and they started beating her up.

Ali and his father Mannan Seikh used to pressurise the victim and demanded gold ornaments, almirah, bed, dressing table various other utensils which the girl’s parents could not provide them during marriage. As she failed to provide these items, she had been subjected to both mental and physical torture at her in-laws house.

The accused husband and his father have been absconding since the incident had taken place.

The family members of the victim lodged a complaint in the police station on the basis of which the police have started an investigation.

They also told the police when they reached the victim’s in-laws house after receiving the news of her death they were beaten up by the husband and other relatives on Sunday morning.

The incident triggered tension in the village. The local people also alleged that the housewife had been subjected to enormous torture at her in-laws house.

The local residents told the police that on Saturday night, the husband had badly beaten up the victim. She had received severe injuries on her head and other parts of the body.

She was declared brought dead after being taken to a nearby hospital. Police are conducting raid to nab the culprits.
