Anna blames ‘low turnout’ for no show at Mamata rally

The anti-corruption crusader, much to his supporters’ consternation, was heard saying that he ‘skipped’ the rally because not even 4,000 people had turned up for the TMC supremo’s national pitch.

However, Hazare deftly avoided to mention that his supporters were equally in charge of organising the campaign at Ramlila Maidan that took place this past Wednesday, and that the low turnout could equally be blamed for his own fading attraction for prospective voters. Hazare’s aides had earlier claimed that the anti-graft mascot from Ralegan Siddhi was too ‘unwell’ to attend, thus contradicting the present position. ‘When I came to Delhi... I found out by 12 noon that there were only 4,000 people in the rally. She was misinformed and I was misinformed,’ said Hazare, while trying to pave a dignified exit route after letting the TMC chief and West Bengal CM down in the national capital.

Banerjee however has maintained a studied silence on Hazare’s ditching her at Delhi Durbar.  Hazare, on its part, has expressed support for the leader, but has refrained from backing her party in the upcoming Lok sabha elections.
