Anand Vihar gears up to accommodate more trains

Being located at the Eastern fringe of the Capital city of Delhi at Anand Vihar locality, the station thus got its name.

The railway station which was inaugurated in 2009, is integrated with the Interstate Bus Terminus and the Anand Vihar Metro station for easy and efficient movement making it a major transportation hub. Spread over a large area of 42 hectares, it is now a mega terminal for east bound trains, which consist of 25 pairs of regular prestigious mail express/superfast trains. Presently, 13 pairs of special trains are also running from this station.

Northern Railway has always endeavoured to provide better facilities at all its establishments to make rail travelling a pleasant experience for the passengers. In this connection two new Island Platforms 4/5 and 6/7 have been constructed at the Anand Vihar Terminal. With the opening of the island platforms, facility for placing of trains increases to seven at a time.

The island platforms are provided with washable aprons on adjoining tracks. The platforms are connected with two subways which lead the concourse, thereby, getting a direct access to the main circulating area. Two lifts (one on each platform) has been provided for the benefit of elderly and physically incompetent passengers, Tact tiles having impressions have also been placed four feet from the edge, all along the platform for easy movement of blind passengers. The subways have been extended to the platforms by means of ramps and staircases at both ends.

Visual sign boards showing platform numbers, public amenities and reservation charts have been provided at conspicuous places for guidance. Several other public amenities have also been provided at the platforms. 

Three steel display boards for reservation charts have also been installed. Adopting maintenance-free concept all water lines and S&T cables have been laid along the platform. The top surface of the platforms is equipped with aesthetically pleasant, impact and abrasion free concrete surfacing.
