Amul outlet under scanner for selling adulterated milk

A renowned dairy company was brought under scrutiny of the Health Department after a complaint was lodged against the quality of milk in their polypacks. On Wednesday afternoon, a raid was conducted at the shop in question and 10 samples were taken. These samples are going to be sent to a Chandigarh lab for testing, whose report is going to decide the future of the investigation.

Pooja Walia, a resident of Sector 40, Gurgaon, reached the Civil Surgeon’s Office on Wednesday. She registered a complaint against Amul Company on the grounds that the milk was adulterated with the Civil Surgeon. She also complained to the shopkeeper about the milk being rancid but there was no investigation undertaken. Following this, she lodged a complaint with the Civil Surgeon on Wednesday.

Acting rapidly, the Civil Surgeon, Dr Ramesh Ghankhad immediately directed the Food Safety Officer, Dr E N Sharma to investigate the matter, who got 10 samples from the shop for testing.

This is the first investigation by the Gurgaon Health Department launched into quality of the perishable consumable items being sold in the district. Since there is no Food Safety Officer in the district, an officer from Rewari has been given this additional responsibility.

Due to this, even the routine inquiries and investigations are not being able to be carried out by the department. Hence, the people engaging in these illegal adulteration activities are taking advantage of this situation. The Food Safety Department did not carry out sample testing even on Holi this year round.
