Amit Shah gets ‘Z-plus’ security

BJP leader Amit Shah’s security has been upgraded to Z-plus category, while the security-cover of journalist Aniruddha Bahal, Congress leader Matang Singh and Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka Gandhi, was sent for a review by the union Home Ministry on Wednesday.

The functioning of the policy planning division in the ministry of home affairs was reviewed by union home minister Rajnath Singh and after long hours of discussion it was decided to upgrade Shah’s security considering threat to his life from the militant groups.

Shah, a close aid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will be guarded by paramilitary CRPF commandos round the clock. The commandos will give him a security ring across the country wherever he travels. Presently, Shah has been under the security of Gujarat Police but soon the commandos will take over the assignment to protect one of the most controversial leaders of BJP.

Shah, a former minister of state for home of Gujarat, was arrested in 2010 in connection with the alleged fake encounter killing of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Kauser Bi and Sheikh’s associate Tulsiram Prajapati.

On the context of reviewing security of other VVIPs, MHA sources said, ‘There was some controversies over security cover to some influential people who actually do not fall under the category. We have sent all the names for review and if required security will be withdrawn or minimize as per situation and requirement.’

Singh, while reviewing security for VVIPs, has instructed the officials that these security arrangements may be reviewed and suitably strengthened, wherever required. He has directed that the security audit of vital installations, wherever due, may be carried out and additional forces deployed, if found necessary, so as to ensure that adequate security arrangements are in place for such installations. He also desired that the budget provisions earmarked for making security arrangements may be reviewed and suitably enhanced.
