Amit Kumar – The rising star

Born in 15 December 1993 , Amit Kumar Dahiya is the youngest wrestler in the Indian delegation and represented India at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London to become the youngest wrestler ever to represent India at the Olympics.

Amit is from Nahri village, Sonipat district, Haryana. Son of Narender Singh, a milkman, Amit started wrestling in second grade at the age of seven when he was admitted to Hansrajji’s Akhara. Soon after, renowned wrestling coach and former Asian and Commonwealth Games medallist Satpal Singh took note of his talent and took him under his wing at his centre in Chhatrasal Stadium, Model Town, New Delhi.

Amit’s hard work started yielding fruit when he won silver at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest. He reached the final in 55-kg category before eventually losing to Hassan Rahimi of Iran.

Amit continued his good form and won gold in 2014 Commonwealth Games 2014 in Glasgow by defeating Ebikweminomo Welson of Nigeria 6-2 in the final.
