Ambika Soni to attend swearing-in ceremony

The alliance between the Congress and the CPI(M) received a major jolt on Thursday after Ambika Soni reached the city as AICC representative to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Friday.
WBPCC has decided to boycott the swearing-in ceremony. A visibly annoyed Adhir Chowdhury refused to comment on the matter and said, “Go and ask AICC.”

Congress chairperson’s decision to send Soni to attend the swearing-in ceremony demolishes the tall claim of Chowdhury that the alliance with the CPI(M) still exists describing it as “people’s alliance”.
Gandhi  was against the alliance from the beginning and finally had to accept it following pressure from Rahul Gandhi.

Meanwhile, Soni and CP Joshi, AICC member in-charge of West Bengal will meet WBPCC leaders on Friday to select the leader of Opposition.

There are three contenders for the post. Manas Bhuniya, Abdul Mannan and Abu Hena. All three are veteran MLAs are well adept with the Parliamentary proceedings. The Left Front chairman Biman Bose on Friday urged all likeminded people to come forward and join the alliance. SUCI and CPI(M-L) will be approached to join it.

“It the alliance of people and participation of likeminded people is required for its success.” Though Bose has urged people to join the alliance, he had failed to convince the Left Front partners about its usefulness.

The Front partners have held the CPI(M) responsible for the poll debacle. The CPI(M) has also failed to face the state committee and find out the causes that had led to the disaster.
