All special cell cases to be heard at Patiala court

Delhi police officers working in the special cell received a huge relief from running to different district courts for trials. From now on, all the cases of the special cell will be heard in a special court of the Patiala House court.

The Delhi High Court had issued an order to this effect on 3 August. The copy of the order has been sent to all district courts of Delhi. ‘On Wednesday, all the courts and the concerned authorities were informed about the order as it will be followed from Thursday,’ an advocate at the Saket court told Millennium Post.

In its order the high court said that the proceeding of the special cell cases will be heard before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) and Additional Sessions Judge-2 (ASJ) at the Patiala House court.

‘It is a good order issued by the high court. All the cases will be heard at one court. It is a judicial adjustment. This order was issued only after the special cell brought the matter into the consideration of the court. The reason is that the cases of special cell are not too many in number. The cases that are investigated by us are mainly related to national security and terrorists,’ said SN Srivastava, special commissioner of police (special cell).

‘It is a big relief, I used to rush from one court to the other. In those circumstances, sometimes I used to miss certain hearings,’ said an advocate requesting anonymity.

The order also reads that the pending cases at various courts will be transferred to the Patiala House court. Even the trial of IPL spot-fixing case will now be heard at Patiala House court from Thursday.
