All rained in

First showers of monsoon are welcomed by everyone. With the monsoons here, let's alter our food and lifestyle habits according to the season to stay healthiest. From the health and well-being perspective, it is important that we stay in tune with nature so that our physical and mental acuity is high, and our immunity functions at its best. Stick to seasonal fruits and vegetables. For instance, eat mangoes only till the season lasts, not till the end of rainy season.

Well, it's really comforting to sit at home with a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy the lashing rain. But then there are always comfort foods which will add more warmth to your soul on a rainy day. If you are still pondering over what to make, then you can go ahead and indulge in soup, chips and dips, mini pies, and of course the pakoras, samosas and tikkis that are the ultimate delights for a delhiites in monsoon. And if you are one of those, who love their share of sweet fare, then go for a hot brownie with chocolate sauce.

My advice on what to try in this monsoon season would be- Bittu Tikki Wala at Karol Bagh, who is famous for its tikkis, pakodas and mutter kulchas. Food joints at C R Park are quiet popular too for its fried delicacies. Daddu’s cutlet shop is one of my favourite place at C R Park for its dhakai paratha, moghlai paratha, piyazi, fish chop, alu chop, mutton chop, egg devil chop, fish fry, chicken seekh kabab rolls, egg mutton seekh kabab rolls and off course mocha chop which is made from banana flower.

Apart from giving relieve from the intense heat of the summer season, monsoon brings with itself some health risks as well. Monsoon is the time when the humidity levels are high in the atmosphere and the capability of our body’s digestive system is at its lowest. There’s no need to panic, as some small variations in eating habits will keep problems at bay. Unhealthy diet: Potatoes, cauliflower, cluster beans, kidney beans, urad, sprouted grains should, consume milk can be avoided. Avoid leafy greens altogether or wash in potassium permanganate before cooking. To avoid stomach ailments and other water-borne diseases, avoid cut fruits or any cold street food.

You must carry water from home when you head out or insist on packaged drinking water. To keep immunity high, eat fruits and vegetables high in vitamin c, beta carotene and iron (carrots, beets, lime, amla, dates). Add ginger and garlic to your cooking to keep sniffles at bay and stomach ailments down.

Enjoy monsoon with French Onion Soup and Lamb lasagna, which are the two monsoon favorites at Olive Bar and Kitchen.
