Akhilesh’s dream projects get cabinet green signal

The State Cabinet gave a go-ahead to Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s dream project to connect Agra with Lucknow through expressway and also approved 2000 MW power project at Ghatampur.

The state cabinet meeting chaired by Akhilesh Yadav approved these projects, an official release said here on Tuesday.

Construction of Agra-Lucknow Expressway, also called green field project, would be constructed under the PPP model. Once complete this 270 km distance would be completed within 3 hours’ time.

The decision to construct Agra-Lucknow highway has come on the heels of throwing open of Yamuna Expressway connecting Noida with Agra with 6-lane road, that can be extended to 8-lane. It is believed that with the construction of Agra-Lucknow expressway the commutation time between Lucknow and New Delhi would be reduced to 6 hours.

In another decision the state government has decided to set up Sports hostel for men in Saifai - the native village of Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Among other decisions government has approved 10 per cent concession for Khadi on view of Gandhi Jayanti and has also announced that the scholarship for class X SC/ST students would directly go to their bank accounts.

The cabinet also approved an MoU between Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) and Tamil Nadu-based Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC), a company under Union coal ministry for setting up of a joint venture 2000 MW thermal power project in Ghatampur in Kanpur district. The proposal to permit sugar mills to sell an additional quota of molasses in the open market was also approved by the cabinet, sources said. There was complaint that molasses was going waste because mills were not allowed to sell the additional molasses in open market. The cabinet also cleared a proposal to provide biometric smart card for those eligible for purchase at fair price shops and provide machines to the shops so that misuse could be prevented.

The government also okayed Rs 4,100 government guarantee to UP rural development bank for taking loans from NABARD and opening of nursing schools for training of ANMs. Besides it has also approved projects to increase water retention capacity in Vidhyachal and Bundelkhand regions.
