AIIMS has written to the Union Health Ministry requesting it to issue a notification that would mandate linking of Aadhaar number with the Unique Health Identification (UHID) number. Till date, nearly 40 lakh patients have generated UHID’s since the e-Hospital software was launched at AIIMS. The UHID number is a single point of reference for all patient activities in AIIMS.
AIIMS Director M C Mishra has written to the Union Health Secretary requesting him to issue a notification that would mandate individual authentication for generation of UHID numbers.
“With the Parliament enacting the Aadhaar Act 2016, a legal provision for mandatory linkage between Aadhaar number and UHID number is possible through a notification issued under Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act 2016. The section provides for Proof of Aadhaar Number necessary for receipt of certain subsidies, benefits and services etc,” AIIMS said in a statement.
