AIIMS to train Nepal police officers

AIIMS Trauma Centre will impart training on emergency care to a delegation of police officers from Nepal.
The police officers are here to undergo training at the Institute of Road and Traffic Education. A part of the training also involves road crash and trauma care management which will be given by doctors here, Dr M C Misra, chief of the AIIMS Trauma Centre, said.
Nineteen police officials are undergoing the training at the IRTE that began on 4 June and is expected to be over by 22 June.
‘Officials in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police and Inspector have come for the training. They will undergo training on accident investigations, traffic control and traffic engineering at the IRTE. Training on post-accident management, which is trauma care and handling of accident victims, will be managed by the AIIMS Trauma Centre,’ Dr Rohit Baluja, president of the Institute of Road Traffic Education, said.
IRTE is is a non-profit organisation formed in December 1991 by interdisciplinary group of members including educationists, doctors, journalists, engineers, ex-servicemen, architects, automobile experts and members of the police.
The AIIMS Trauma Centre is already training CRPF doctors, nurses and constables and helping them set up Field Surgical Units in conflict-ridden areas.
‘We have also trained officials from the Indian Army too. Along with other important aspects, our training emphasies on safe delivery of trauma patient to a specialist hospital in order to help improve survival, outcomes and care for patients suffering life-threatening and complex injuries,’ Dr Misra said.
