AIIMS doctor found dead, blames husband in FB post

Marital discord is suspected to be the reason for her taking the extreme step.

Before taking the extreme step, the woman wrote a note on her Facebook account and also left a suicide note, alleging that her husband is a gay and tortured her for dowry. Based on these, the police have arrested her husband, also a doctor at AIIMS.

The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a Delhi Police team started looking for victim Dr Priya Vedi, who worked as an anesthetist in AIIMS. “Late Saturday evening, Priya’s husband Kamal Vedi (34) filed a complaint, saying that his wife was missing since morning. After which, the police launched an operation to trace Priya. It was suspected that she could be near Nabi Karim area in central Delhi,” said Parmaditya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central).

The couple had got married five years ago and had been living at AIIMS resident doctors’ quarters since then. Kamal works a dermatologist at the hospital, the police said.

The police found that Priya had checked in room number 302 of Hotel Presidency at Paharganj. They found the room locked from inside. “We broke open the door and found Priya lying on the bed in a pool of blood,” said an investigating official.

The police said that Priya, whose wrist was slit, was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced brought dead. A suicide note was found in her possession, in which she held marital discord and her husband’s sexual orientation for taking the extreme step. She further alleged in the note that since she had come to know of Kamal’s sexuality, he often tortured her for dowry.

“We are investigating the case from all angles and have arrested Kamal based on the victim’s suicide note. Kamal was arrested from his residence at AIIMS. He has been booked under the sections 498A and 304B of the Indian Penal Code,” Parmaditya said.
