AIDS society distributes 1.6 L condoms for free at GB Road

The Delhi State Aids Control Society (DSACS) has distributed over 1.68 lakh condoms free of cost in the GB Road area, after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) expressed its concern over the shortage of the contraceptive.

“Of an estimated monthly requirement of 12 lakh condoms across Delhi, 4 lakh are required in GB Road. <g data-gr-id="12">DSACS</g> has not been receiving condom supply from the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) since May this year. In view of the present crisis at GB Road, <g data-gr-id="13">DSACS</g> has provided 1,68,008 condoms for free,” said Additional Project Director PS Nayyer. He added: “Of these, 1,00,800 condoms were supplied by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and 62,208 by Reckitt Benckiser. We are in a process of getting more condoms till the regular supply comes from NACO.”

DCW chief Swati Maliwal had earlier sought a report on the supply of condoms to GB Road from <g data-gr-id="16"><g data-gr-id="15">DSACS</g>,</g> and had written to NACO, seeking reasons for the gap in supply in red-light areas.
