AI to have extra holiday flights on Chennai-Port Blair route

Air India will operate additional flights from Chennai to Port Blair next month to cater to the increased traffic during the holiday season. The additional flights on the route would operate between May 9 and 27, an official statement said on Tuesday.

"The flight AI-1549 to be operated every Monday and Friday will leave from Chennai to Port Blair (in Andaman Islands) on May 9," a release from the national carrier said.

From Chennai, the flight would depart in the morning and in the return journey, it would start from Port Blair in the afternoon. The government-owned airline had earlier this month announced additional services to some existing destination besides ramping up frequencies on two international routes as part of the ongoing summers schedule.

The airline has already increased frequency on the Mumbai -Bhopal sector with the addition of a daily return flight, to offer day-return facility to its passengers. Besides, the airline will offer a daily return flight from Bengaluru to Thiruvananthapuram which it has decided to operate with an Airbus A321 aircraft.
