Agriculture dept seeks report on damage suffered by potato cultivators

The state agriculture department has sought a detail report from the district agriculture development official in Hooghly on the damage suffered by potato cultivators in the district.

Potato cultivation was affected due to some diseases in ten gram panchayat areas that come under Jangipara block in Hooghly.

Minister of state for Agriculture, Becharam Manna said that the department had received many complaints from Hooghly district.

The department has sought a detailed report on the damaged potatoes. The matter will be looked into after the district official submits a report on the issue.

Chief Minister and Agriculture minister were informed about the matter.

The farmers have appealed to the state government to take necessary steps in this regard. A senior official of the state agriculture department said this will not have any impact on the final production. According to him, the state had produced 110 lakh tonnes of potatoes last year.

The price of potatoes will be affordable and it’s price here is the lowest compared to other states, the official said. “Potato production is unlikely to be impacted,” said a senior official of the agriculture department.
