After May 19, Oppn will return empty-handed: Mamata

Trinamool Congress has achieved the magic figure to form the government but more seats will make it stronger to carry out development work for the masses, party’s chief Mamata Banerjee said on Monday.

She was addressing a rally on Monday afternoon in support of her party nominees. The area will go to poll on May 5, the last day of the sixth phase election.

“We have achieved the magic figure to form the government but your vote is equally important as more seats will make the government strong so that more development work can be carried out for the people,” she said. She said in addition to South Bengal districts, the party would do better in Malda and Murshidabad.

She said: “On May 19 when the results will be out, Congress, CPI(M) and BJP will see that their bags are empty,” she said adding that “The Opposition will be given lollipops along with a pillow so having finished the lollipop they can go to bed peacefully like children.”

Mamata Banerjee said no development had taken place in the area since Independence as the political parties did not have the will to do anything constructive. She said the construction of ITI was on and steps would be taken to develop industries in the area.

She said Utterkanya had been set up. Local folk artists had been given financial assistance and the interest of common people had been looked after.

She said the poor people were getting Rs 2 a kilo rice and through various projects like Kanyashree and Sabuj Sathi, the girls and students had been benefitted.

The students have got cycles free of cost under Sabuj Sathi projects and this had helped them to reach their educational institutions on time. The condition of roads has been improved and communication has become better.

She said the Central Forces were doing excesses after getting instructions “from BJP and CPI(M),” and urged people to vote fearlessly. “Go to the polling station early in the morning and cast your vote,” she said.

Attacking BJP she said she would never tolerate any attempt to divide Cooch Behar. “BJP has nothing to do except play the politics of division. TMC stands for peace and unity and will not allow any division.”

Banerjee urged people not to get swayed by rumours and canards. “The rumour mongers and those who are spreading canards will not be able to create any dent in TMC,” she said.

She said the Congress had become “red” and given up its ideology. “Do not trust this unethical alliance and vote for TMC candidates,” she maintained.
