After BJP, now Cong woos Ganguly; cricketer yet to decide

An iconic cricketer and now sports commentator, Ganguly was approached by the BJP for accepting a party ticket a few days ago.

Congress sources said that Ganguly has agreed to participate in a social programmes organised by party workers, but not yet ready to play the political game, at least on behalf of the Congress. ‘He is the pride of Bengal as well as of India. He is a star in his own right. I know him for long and met him today for a discussion. He will attend some of our social programmes like blood donation camps. But personally, I don’t think he is prepared to accept a party ticket. I think he wants to stay close to cricket’, Pradip Bhattacharya, president of the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee told Millennium Post.

Interestingly, senior cabinet minister in the TMC-led state government ruled out approaching the ex-captain for a run with politics. ‘We haven’t thought about it. But Ganguly being approached by the Congress (being what it is in West Bengal right now) hardly adds a feather to his cap’, quipped Mukherjee. The state BJP chief Rahul Sinha, said, ‘He has neither said  a yes or a no. He said he would consider the offer and reply’.
