AEPC to host fairs to boost apparel export

India's apex apparel industry body AEPC on Thursday said that it has lined up a series of trade fairs and exhibitions in countries like Colombia, Panama and New Zealand to boost the sector's exports.

'As India's traditional markets - the US and Europe - are not showing signs of improvement, we are targeting new markets for our products,' Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) President A Sakthivel said.

He said the council has already arranged several trade fairs and exhibitions in countries like the UK, Israel and Russia.

'We are expecting good orders from these countries,' he said.

Sakthivel added that the Indian apparel companies have also participated in several international fashion in places like Hong Kong and lead high level trade delegations to Hungary, South Africa, Chile, Japan and Uruguay. 'During January-June 2012, India's garments exports to EU and the US declined by 10 per cent and 25 per cent, respectively,' he added.

The country's textiles exports decreased to USD 32.45 billion in 2011-12 from USD 27.15 billion.
