Advani meets Sinha, says he should be Jharkhand CM

Veteran BJP leader LK Advani met party leader Yashwant Sinha at Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh on Tuesday and claimed that he is the ‘right person’ to be the chief minister of Jharkhand for raising local issues, which have been neglected so far in the state. Advani was the first BJP leader to pay Sinha a visit since his arrest.

The senior BJP leader is believed to have asked Sinha to leave jail after securing bail to lead the ‘historic agitation’ against the power crisis in Jharkhand. Advani was accompanied by former chief minister Arjun Munda and state BJP president Ravindra Rai.

Soon after meeting the former finance minister, Advani interacted with the media and said, ‘I feel that when he is getting support and respect from all BJP stalwarts, time has come for Sinha to respect the feeling of BJP leaders, not only from Jharkhand, but also in the country and come out of jail.’

‘He is also the right person to be chief minister after the assembly elections later this year. He should thereafter lead the ongoing agitation against power crisis and corruption in the GM’s office in the Hazaribagh area of the electricity board,’ he added.

While praising his movement against corruption in the state, Advani said, ‘Yashwant Sinha has launched a historic agitation in support of small villages. I appreciate the stand taken by him for fulfilling the cause of poor villagers and he deserves all praise and support. Prior to the agitation probably no other BJP leader in the state had ever launched such a vital movement in Jharkhand.’
In the context of ‘poor governance’ in the state, he said, ‘It is very significant for Jharkhand where no concrete development work had ever taken place earlier. Had this type of andolan (agitation) been taken up by the BJP, then the picture of this state would have been different. When asked whether Sinha had intentionally launched the agitation to prove his presence in the state politics, the party veteran said, ‘Why not? He is capable of leading Jharkhand after the assembly elections and the right person to become the next chief minister of state, which requires good governance and able leadership particularly after the historic 2014 poll verdict in the country.’

Later, Advani also visited the state cell and offered tribute to the freedom fighters like Jai Prakash Narayan. Sinha was arrested on 3 June for leading a demonstration against power cuts in Hazaribagh. Then a group of BJP workers has tied up the state power board’s general manager, DN Jha, to his chair in his office.

Later, the police intervened to rescue the official and then detained Sinha along with 50 others demonstrators. Sinha represented the Hazaribagh constituency in Parliament but this time he made way for his Jayant who won from the same constituency in the 16th Lok Sabha. Sinha has so far refused to pay the bail needed for his release. The case will next be heard on 28 June.
