Ads on refrigerators, watches, dashboards? A Google idea!

You may soon see advertisements on your refrigerators, car dashboards, thermostats, glasses and even watches courtesy — Google!
According to a letter filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in December and disclosed on Tuesday, the search giant may serve ads on a different set of ‘mobile’ devices, including thermostats, glasses and watches.Google mentioned the plan while defending its reluctance to disclose revenue generated by mobile devices.

The company argued that it does not make sense to break out mobile revenue since the definition of mobile will ‘continue to evolve’ as more ‘smart’ devices will roll out, The Wall Street Journal reported.

‘Our expectation is that users will be using our services and viewing our ads on an increasingly wide diversity of devices in the future,’ the company said in the filing. In January, Google announced a $3.2 billion deal to buy Nest Labs, a startup known for smart thermostats and smoke detectors — a few weeks after it told the SEC to expect ads and other content on such devices, the report said.Google, however, tried to clarify the statements, and confirmed Nest would not show ads.

‘We are in contact with the SEC to clarify the language in this 2013 filing, which does not reflect Google's product road-map. Nest, which we acquired after this filing was made, does not have an ads-based model and has never had any such plans,’ a Google spokesman said.
